As we age, the need to maintain strength, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness becomes even more important. The Franciscan Center provides the facilities and equipment to help you achieve your goals—all under the expert guidance of our well-qualified staff.
Fitness Class Descriptions
30 Minute Core
This class focuses on your core strength and stability. It is a total core workout that will help flatten your stomach and strengthen your lower back.
Cardio Circuit Training
This program allows you to work on your strength and flexibility. We will focus on movement, coordination, and reflexes.
Participants of all fitness levels will work on increasing cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength and stress reduction. This class is an excellent opportunity to exercise with friends and meet new one. It’s all the fun you had as a kid without the skinned knees.
Intermediate Line Dance
Country line dance fun from 1 wall to 4 wall dances.
Intermediate Tai Chi
Building on the foundation of Basic Kimoodo (Tai Chi), stretching, breathing, and concentration are deepened and broadened, leading to more powerful functional change. Movements are more dynamic and some squatting, lunging, and turning are incorporated in this class.
Kettlebells are the ultimate training tool for all around fitness and physical development. Whether you are training with a short or sharp workout, this class will target all core areas.
Silver Sneakers Classic
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.
Silver Sneakers Yoga
Move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance, and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and a final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.
Plan your routine around circuit-weight training followed by gentle stretching. Our trainers will help you design a library of fitness tools using free-weights or machine-based resistant systems.
Women’s Beginning Strength Training
Learn the basics of strength training in a less intimidating and fun setting. The class will be taught in a circuit (station to station) style, working all major muscle groups. Instructor will incorporate use of body weight, free weights, resistance bands, stability balls, and other equipment. Must be comfortable exercising on a mat. Class size will be limited to 12.
Enjoy all the benefits that Yoga has to offer with increased strength and flexibility and stress release. Class consists of basic postures with an emphasis on proper alignment and modifications along with a final relaxation. Participants must be comfortable getting up and down from the mat. Please bring a yoga mat and a blanket with you.
Beginning Line Dance
Predominately one wall dances, with beginner steps for those just learning or who have never line danced before.
Beginning Tai Chi
Slow, rhythmic movements derived from martial arts practice designed to promote holistic health. The movements incorporate gentle stretching, breathing, and mental focus. This class is mostly standing with some seated movements.
Water Class Descriptions
Aquatic Core A
This is a water balance and strengthening class for the beginner who is just entering the water for fitness.
Aquatic Core B
Intermediate level core balance and strengthening class using aquatic tools to challenge the swimmer’s fitness and agility
This is a comprehensive and fun exercise class that will help you get fit and build strength. It includes components of cardio and resistance training using a variety of resistance equipment including noodles, hand buoys, balls, splash boards and cardio steps.
This is a fun-filled class that will push you to do your very best! This class will focus on strength, movement, coordination, reflexes and flexibility. We will use balls, splash boards, noodles and weights to achieve our goals! We will also aqua jog to work off all those unwanted calories.
Warm Water Arthritis
Slow, gentle movements in the warm water designed to soothe joints, increase range of motion and function. You don’t have to have arthritis to enjoy this gentle movement based activity!
This class will get you moving to fun music and simple routines so that you get a great workout without learning complicated dance and fitness movement. This program will strengthen your core and help you to burn those unwanted calories.
Water Flexibility (Parkinson’s)
This class offers gentle stretching and works on the stiffness and slow response normally associated with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological issues.
In this class, we will explore various types of yoga taking advantage of the water’s buoyancy. We will be using noodles to help with the different yoga positions.
Water aerobics, walking, and jogging taught to the tunes of the oldies. Great workout and great fun!
